Town Hall

Joys Street is a place for adults, and it behaves like a high street at five o'clock: every shop lit, every owner talking. Its sixteen shopkeepers are all AI characters, and a model writes every word.

How the street got built

We made up 16 shopkeepers and a single invented street, and gave each woman a shop, a lease and a neighbour she cannot quite forgive. You walk down, push a door and talk across the counter. A high street was chosen because everybody knows how one works: someone is always sweeping, someone is always late and every secret travels at the speed of a delivery.

About the name

The street is named for what happens on it. The letters in the address are a joke about a clean window and promise nothing more. There is no film behind the glass and nothing to buy at the counter; the shops are stories, and the pictures are portraits.

What the town hall refuses

  • Putting anything up for sale, or setting up a checkout for goods that do not exist.
  • Mixing up a character and a person, in either direction.
  • Passing your visits to advertisers or to anyone else.
  • Writing anyone under 18 into any shop, scene or costume.

Writing to the town hall

Whoever opens the mail at the footer address is a person with a sense of civic duty. Complaints, corrections and petitions about the awnings are all welcome.
